Carwyn Chamberlain
Carwyn is a Business Development Manager at DBD International. In his time as a senior consultant at DBD, Carwyn has led the development of Operational Research models for numerous decommissioning and waste management projects across the NDA estate in the UK, with clients operating in DoE estates in the USA and for OPG in Canada. Carwyn has delivered a number of strategic studies in both waste and new technologies both in the UK and US markets.
Carwyn has been an active volunteer with the YGN since 2017, working initially in the Education, Attraction and Outreach area and has since held the roles of Membership Retention & Development Lead and was Chair in 2023. Carwyn has been a strong advocate for STEM education, and skills development within the UK Nuclear Industry
Corhyn Parr is CEO of Nuclear Waste Services, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority’s waste management organisation. She was previously Director of Integrated Waste at the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), a role which includes bringing together RWM and LLWR into a single waste organisation and creating a national programme for integrated waste management to improve how waste is retrieved, treated, transported, stored, and disposed of.
She has worked within the nuclear industry for over 20 years since graduating as a mechanical engineer, supporting nuclear operations, generation, decommissioning and waste management across most nuclear licensed sites in the UK. She has also worked on nuclear projects internationally in Europe, Canada and USA. She is the current Chair of the Nuclear Skills Strategy Group (NSSG) which is an important national alliance for skills and provides a space for Government and industry to join forces on the right skills strategy and plan for nuclear. A core passion of hers is to drive for a fully diverse and inclusive nuclear sector and as Exec sponsor for D&I at NDA is steering efforts across the group to build a new Inclusion strategy to deliver step change.
David Peattie, FREng HonFNucl, was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer for the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority in 2017, following a 33 year career in a number of technical, commercial and senior management positions in the oil and gas industry, including a final role as Head of BP Russia. He has significant global experience of leadership in the energy, oil and gas industries, and a strong track record in tackling complex commercial and engineering challenges in the UK and internationally.
Prior to taking up his role at the NDA, David was Chief Executive Officer at Fairfield Energy, where he led the successful turnaround of performance of North Sea assets and oversaw the start of the decommissioning project for the Dunlin Alpha Platform. He has also served as Chairman of Pacific Nuclear Transport Ltd since 2017.
Euan Hutton was appointed as Sellafield Ltd’s interim Chief Executive Officer in 2023. He has enjoyed a 31-year career in the national and international nuclear industry, a career he started at Sellafield as a graduate.
He has previously held senior leadership roles with responsibility for the decommissioning of our highest nuclear risks and hazards on the Sellafield site, giving him extensive understanding of Sellafield’s operations and challenges.
Euan was appointed as director of environment, health, and safety in 2016, where he supported the transition of the company to being a wholly owned subsidiary of the NDA.
As interim site director, Euan was responsible for the operations of the Sellafield site.
Lynne was appointed by the National Nuclear Skills Task Force In October 23 to head up Destination Nuclear, the UKs first ever cross sector communications programme. This Government backed ambitious programme was launched in February 2024 and aims to support the sectors aim to attract more people, particularly in the critical skills areas, and grow the workforce required to deliver the UKs nuclear ambition in defence and net zero energy.
The programme has gained future support and Lynne will continue her secondment from EDF to develop the national strategy and lead the team delivering the programme in collaboration with the whole sector.
Experienced in Marketing and PR, Lynne joined the nuclear industry as part of a start up team that developed British Energy’s B2B business and took it to market leading position. In a move to EDF Nuclear New Build she has lead on the development of regional and national skills capacity and capability solutions as a key part of project delivery and risk mitigation. EDF having successfully achieved approval and investment for Hinkley Point C, she moved on to lead the early socio-economic work on Bradwell B and supported the early work on the investment case for Sizewell C.
Lynne continued to work closely with Government and Industry as she moved to a short term secondment as Director for The UKs Nuclear Sector Deal. This involved identifying critical areas that required cross sector collaboration and bringing people together to work on solutions. This role included support to the Great British Nuclear Taskforce Capability and Capacity sprint team
Throughout her career she has worked on a number of global projects in Asia and Europe as an SME and Chair of various working groups for IAEA.
Monica Mwanje brings over 20 years’ delivery experience gained primarily in the civil nuclear sector. She started her career as a graduate chemical engineer, over time progressing into business development and strategic roles.
In 2015 she founded MM Creative Solutions (MMCS). MMCS provides strategic consultancy services for organisations seeking growth and transformation in nuclear and other regulated sectors.
Alongside this Monica is the co-founder and Managing Director of Inclusion and Diversity in Nuclear (IDN) which launched in 2019. IDN is a fast-growing, solution focussed organisation highlighting the importance of workplace inclusion, diversity and equity across the industry and the benefits it can bring. IDN provides evidence-based resources and training to educate, undertakes research, facilitates conversations amongst stakeholders and advises on meaningful steps to engage, retain and propel change for the current and future workforce.
Monica is also a Board Director and Steering Group Member for the Northern Nuclear Alliance, an External Advisory Board Member for the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Fusion Energy (Fusion CDT), an advisory board member for Deep Isolation, an advisor to Racial Equality in Nuclear UK, and a trustee for the youth charity RECLAIM.
Robert Marwood leads the Robotics and Technology group in the Decommissioning and Waste Services business unit of AtkinsRéalis. He is responsible for the delivery and growth of innovative projects that deploy robotics and digital technologies to solve client challenges and deliver decommissioning faster, safer, cheaper. Robert has over fourteen years’ experience in the nuclear industry, and a track record of delivering innovative nuclear decommissioning & waste management solutions to the highest standards.
Robert’s roles have included Responsible Engineer at Sellafield, where he was responsible for the delivery and Intelligent Customer oversight of mechanical engineering design on projects within the Site Remediation value stream. Prior to his current role at AtkinsRéalis, Robert was engineering manager for several projects and active demonstrators. These include: using industrial robots and laser cutting tooling to size reduce legacy fuel skips and gloveboxes remotely; deploying robotic arms into gloveboxes and using teleoperation to achieve remote glovebox operations; using AI to demonstrate the future potential of autonomous sorting and segregating of nuclear wastes.
Robert is a Chartered Engineer of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and gained a master’s in engineering at the University of Durham in the UK.
From 1 May Rob, who was previously a non-executive director on the NRS board, moved into the role of interim CEO.
Rob’s 35-year career in the nuclear industry started at the Atomic Weapons Establishment as a Board Director, where he eventually became Acting Managing Director.
Moving to Rolls-Royce as Director of Strategic Programmes – Nuclear, Rob then became President of Nuclear Services and Projects before being appointed as President/CEO Civil Nuclear and a Board Member of Rolls-Royce Power Engineer plc.
Rob is an advisor to the UK Atomic Energy Authority’s fusion reactor programme.
Rob has an honours degree in Chemical Engineering, a Masters Degree in Business Administration, a Diploma in Company Direction from the Institute of Directors and is a Chartered Engineer.
With a background in environmental management and 20+ years in decommissioning, well abandonment and de-carbonisation, Sam is an industry advocate and leader for long term and sustainable end of life solutions in the energy sector.
Sam leads Decom Mission, a renowned, Not for Profit trade association that is solely focussed on decommissioning in oil and gas, nuclear and renewables sectors.
After completing a Masters in Nuclear Science and Technology from the University of Manchester, Sarah went on to start a career in nuclear waste and decommissioning starting on the nucleargraduates scheme sponsored by Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS). After completing the graduate scheme, Sarah joined NRS, playing a major role in what was Europe's largest land remediation project at the time, and managing legacy waste. In 2021, Sarah joined Nuclear Waste Services (NWS), using her operational experience to support customers in Waste Services, to identify, procure and deliver successful waste management projects which are of value to the taxpayer and reduce waste disposed of to the Low Level Waste Repository. Sarah has volunteered with the Nuclear Institute's Young Generation Network (YGN) since 2020; their mission is to encourage and develop the UK's early career professionals and ensure their voice is heard in shaping the future of our sector. Sarah is proud to be the Chair of the NI YGN for 2024.
Before becoming CEO Seth was Managing Director of INS. He is a former chartered accountant and strategy consultant, who has experience of leading and developing organisations and a strong track record in tackling complex commercial challenges in the UK and internationally.
Tom Greatrex became Chief Executive of the NIA in 2016. Formerly Member of Parliament for Rutherglen and Hamilton West, Tom was shadow energy minister from 2011 – 2015 and served as a member of the Energy Select Committee from 2010 and from 2007-2010 was a policy adviser in the Scotland Office, including on energy.
In a varied prior career, he was a Director of Corporate Affairs for the NHS in Scotland, a chief officer in local government and a GMB trade union official in England. Outside of work his main interests are family, football (Fulham) and film. He is a member of the FA Council, the governing body of English football, vice-chair of the Football Supporters’ Association and a school governor.
